e-GP training in Bangladesh: courses and how to prepare

Who e-GP training is for

Two very different audiences are called 'e-GP trainees'. Tenderers — contractors, suppliers and consultants — need to register a firm, keep the account and certificates valid, search notices, fill the tender forms and submit before the portal clock closes. Procuring entity officials need the other half of the system: annual procurement plan entry, tender creation, evaluation committee workflow, notification of award and contract management. Before you book any course, be clear which side you are on, because the syllabus barely overlaps.

Where official training comes from

Public procurement training in Bangladesh is organised by the Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority (BPPA), which took over the role of the former CPTU under IMED, Ministry of Planning. Training for government officials runs through BPPA's own programmes and partner institutes; tenderer-facing orientation is usually shorter and often arranged with chambers, trade associations or the procuring entity itself. Announcements and the training material BPPA publishes appear on the national portal, and the help desk can tell you what is currently scheduled.

What a tenderer course actually covers

A useful tenderer session is mostly hands-on portal work, not theory: creating and verifying the firm account, uploading and renewing the mandatory documents, reading a tender notice correctly, downloading the tender document, filling the technical and price schedules, paying the fees and tender security online, and submitting with time to spare. The valuable part is the failure cases — a mismatched schedule, an expired certificate, an unsigned form — because those are what get technically capable firms rejected.

How much you can learn without a classroom

A large part of e-GP is learnable on your own. The national portal publishes user guidelines and help material, the public tender notice list is open without logging in, and the rules themselves — PPR 2008 and the 2025 rules — are public documents. Read one real tender document end to end, write down every eligibility line it asks for, and check your own file against it. That single exercise teaches more than a day of slides.

Practise before the deadline, not on it

The most expensive mistake is treating your first real tender as the training run. Give yourself a dry run: pick a live notice you will not bid on, download it, prepare the documents as if you were bidding, and time yourself. You will find the gaps — an unrenewed trade licence, a missing audited statement, a bank that needs two days for the security — while they are still fixable.

Before you book a training

• Decide your track first: tenderer or procuring entity — the syllabus is different.
• Confirm who is running the course and whether it is hands-on portal practice or slides only.
• Take your own firm's documents with you so you practise on real data, not a demo file.
• Make sure someone other than the owner is also trained — accounts get locked when one person is unavailable.
• Write down the portal steps in your own words the same day; you forget the click order within a week.
• Repeat a dry-run submission every few months, especially after a rule or portal change.
